LiveFor e-bike shops
An e-bike on the stand is a bicycle with a computer bolted to it. BIKE.co helps you write down what the diagnostic found, prove it to the manufacturer, and put the diagnostic time on the bill.

The e-bike day
The bike that comes in with 'it just cuts out' is the hardest ticket in the shop. It might be a loose connector at the display, a speed sensor magnet knocked out of line, a battery with a dead cell group, or a motor fault that needs the manufacturer's diagnostic tool plugged in and a log pulled. You cannot quote it at the counter. You have to put it on the stand, connect the laptop, read the error codes, and often ride it to reproduce the fault.
That diagnostic time is real labor, and it is the labor most often given away. A mechanic spends forty minutes finding a pinched cable, fixes it in five, and the ticket says five. Multiply that by a season of commuter e-bikes and cargo bikes and it is a meaningful share of your bench hours.
Then there is the paperwork. A Bosch, Shimano or Brose warranty claim wants a serial number, a fault code, a description, photos and proof of the steps you took. The bike then waits for the replacement motor or battery, sometimes for weeks, and the owner, who uses it to get to work, calls every few days.

One bike, its serials and every visit
A bike record with frame, motor and battery serials and its service history. Bike records are on the Service roadmap; this shows the planned design.

What an e-bike shop uses from BIKE.co
The diagnostic record, the time and the bill are live today. Tracking the bike by serial and the parts on order is on the Service roadmap.
E-bike diagnostic checklist
Battery voltage and capacity, error codes, firmware version, connector and cable inspection, torque sensor and speed sensor checks, with photos on every question that needs proof.
Warranty-ready PDF
The submitted diagnostic as a PDF with photos drawn in, ready to attach to a manufacturer claim alongside the tool's own log.
Required answers
Make the serial number, fault code and battery reading required, so a diagnostic cannot be submitted without them.
Diagnostic time on the clock
Mechanics clock in against the visit, so the forty minutes spent finding a pinched cable is recorded against the job and approved on the weekly timesheet.
Quote, job and invoice
Quote the repair with the diagnostic fee as a line, convert the approved quote into a job, and bill it in one click when the work is done.
Bike records by serial
Frame, motor and battery serials on one record with every past repair. Planned in Service.
Waiting-on-parts status
A status for bikes held for an OEM part, with the purchase order linked. Planned in Service.
Legal for warranty questions
When a manufacturer and a customer disagree about a battery, the Legal module is live today to help you work through it.
Write the diagnostic down, the same way every time
The strongest thing an e-bike shop can do for itself is diagnose to a written standard. When every e-bike gets the same checks in the same order, two things happen. Mechanics stop skipping steps that seem obvious, which is where most comebacks come from. And the record of what was checked becomes the evidence a manufacturer wants before it approves a claim.
Service checklists are built for that today. A diagnostic template can hold short answers for serials and error codes, numbers for battery voltage, dropdowns for the drive system, checkboxes for each connector inspected, photos of the burn mark on a connector or the damaged cable, and a signature from the owner accepting the diagnostic fee. Required answers keep the template honest. The PDF gives you something to send the manufacturer and the owner, and the CSV report lets you see, over a season, which faults keep coming back on which systems.
Checklist templates are versioned, so when you add a question for a new motor platform, older submissions keep the answers they were given. Your diagnostic history stays readable even as the template changes.
Put the diagnostic time on the ticket
Diagnostic time gets given away because nobody writes it down. In Service, the mechanic clocks in against the visit before the laptop goes on the bike, and clocks out when the fault is found. The hours sit against the job, in the work category, and a manager approves the week's timesheet, so the forty minutes are on record whether or not anyone remembers them on Friday.
Getting that time onto the bill is still a manual step. Hours do not flow into invoice lines yet, so you add the diagnostic as a line on the quote or the job at the rate you charge. The quote handles the conversation with the owner well: the diagnostic fee is one line, the likely repair is another, and the extras the owner may decline, like a new charger, go on as optional lines. When the owner says yes, mark the quote approved and convert it into a job, and the chosen lines carry across.
When every visit on the job is closed, and the required diagnostic checklist is submitted, one click bills the job as a numbered invoice with the discount and tax worked out. Sending it marks it sent; it does not email the owner yet, so hand it over or send it yourself, and record the payment when it arrives.
What the roadmap adds for e-bikes
The Service plan includes equipment records with serials and service history. For an e-bike shop, that becomes a record per bike carrying frame, motor and battery serials, with every visit listed, so the second time a battery comes in you can see the first diagnostic without digging. A bench board will add statuses for bikes waiting on approval or on parts, and purchase orders will link the part on order to the bike waiting for it.
Job costing is planned too. It will compare labor and parts against what you charged, which is how you find out whether your flat diagnostic fee covers an average Bosch fault or not. None of the items in this section can be used today, and until bike records exist, a job is recorded against the customer's site and name, so serials belong in the diagnostic checklist.
FAQ
Questions shop owners ask
Does BIKE.co read error codes from Bosch, Shimano or Brose systems?+
No. BIKE.co does not connect to manufacturer diagnostic software. Your mechanic reads the codes with the manufacturer's tool and records them in the diagnostic checklist, along with photos and any log file reference.
Can the diagnostic checklist be used for warranty claims?+
It can support one. The submitted checklist becomes a PDF with your photos and the answers drawn in, which you can attach to a claim. Each manufacturer has its own claim process, so check what yours requires.
Can I charge for diagnostic time with BIKE.co?+
Yes, with one manual step. Mechanics clock diagnostic time against the job, and you add the diagnostic fee as a line on the quote or job, which carries onto the invoice. Hours do not flow into invoice lines automatically yet, so the line is typed in at your rate.
Can I track bikes waiting weeks on OEM parts?+
Not as a status yet. A waiting-on-parts status and purchase orders linked to the bike are on the Service roadmap. Today the job stays open with its visit unscheduled or scheduled for the day the part is due, and the checklist report shows every diagnostic submitted in a date range.
Does the checklist cope with different motor systems?+
Yes. You can build one template per drive system, or one template with a dropdown for the system and questions that apply to all of them. Templates are versioned, so adding questions later does not break older records.
